European Summer Philharmonic and Choir 2026
5-9 July 2026
European Summer Philharmonic and -Choir
H2O
The Sound of Water
Bedřich Smetana – The Moldau
Claude Debussy – La Mer
Ralph Vaughan Williams – A Sea Symphony
The Saxon Mozart Society invites enthusiastic choir singers and instrumentalists from all of Europe to join the European Summer Philharmonic and -Choir (#SoPhi26) in Chemnitz. Musicians of all ages and levels of proficiency are very welcome. During a 4-day rehearsal period, the programme will be developed under the professional guidance of mentors. During rehearsals, concerts and joint leisure activities, the participants of #SoPhi26 get to know each other and, carried by the energy of music and music-making, form friendships. These are tangible examples and expressions of the European idea. Highlights of the project are the final open-air performances in both Chomutov and Chemnitz.
The European Summer Philharmonic and -Choir (#SoPhi26) concerns itself with the sound of water: The falling of a drop, the bubbling of a spring, the splashing of a stream, the patter of rain, the sound of waves, the roar of a storm… there is music in it all!
Apart from the symphonic poems “The Moldau” by Bedřich Smetana and „La Mer“ by Claude Debussy, Ralph Vaughan Williams monumental “Sea Symphony”, in which soloists and the choir face each other on equal terms, will be performed.
